First Day Of York Race Course's June Meeting
7:33am 14th June 2013
Newmarket based trainer David Simcock is set to saddle two runners in the Jigsaw Sponsorship Services Handicap at York today (14th June 2012).
The £25,000 contest is run over one mile and six furlongs, the same course and distance as the Betfred Ebor Handicap in August.
Simcock will be represented by the top-weight Montaser in the colours of Dr Marwan Koukash and to show equal support for the other side of the Pennines, Martin Chuzzlewit owned by Yorkshire businessman, Sir Robert Ogden. .
Montaser, a son of Rail Link, is making his seasonal bow and will bid to build on a solid 2012 campaign. He won two of his six races last year including a competitive handicap at Ascot.
Simcock said: “Montaser was a good three-year-old and we would like to think that he will go on at four.
“He was due to run at Chester in May but went lame behind and missed a week’s exercise. So we lost some time and he might just be caught out for fitness. But he is in excellent form and will be suited by the (good to firm) ground."
Martin Chuzzlewit had his first run for the Simcock yard when fourth over a mile and a half at the Dante Festival in May. He has come out of that race well and his trainer is hoping that the step up in trip will bring out some improvement.
“Martin Chuzzlewit ran a respectable race at York and should improve for that appearance and for the step up to a mile and six furlongs.”
The seven-race card valued at over £100,000 gets underway at 2pm.
