Potash Mine Near Pickering - Decision Date Put Back
9:31am 5th June 2013
The North York Moors National Park Authority has agreed with York Potash that a small extension to the planning determination date is required to enable additional information to be made available to the public and statutory consultees. The Special Planning Committee meeting has therefore been rescheduled from 2 July 2013 to the new date of 29 July 2013, at Sneaton Castle, Whitby.
This new date is required to ensure that new information arising from further survey and monitoring work undertaken by York Potash relating to the potential impacts of the mine on the ground water, springs and streams in the vicinity of Dove’s Nest Farm and the surrounding protected moorland habitats can be properly considered. Planning legislation requires that further public consultation on new information has to take place and a period of 21 days will be scheduled into the new timescale to allow for this, commencing during the week of 10 June.
The Authority and York Potash say they both believe this extension is in the best interests of achieving a robust and sound planning decision, based on objective information which will enable a full assessment to be made on the planning impacts of the proposal on the National Park.
