Bishopthorpe Pre-School Get Monks Cross Shopping Trip

7:14am 21st May 2013

The children of Bishopthorpe Pre-school Playgroup are visiting Monks Cross Shopping today to collect one of their four sponsored story sacks.

Monks Cross Shopping has continued its relationship with Bishopthorpe Playgroup by sponsoring four of its most recent educational resources; a “story sack”.  A story sack is a large cloth bag that includes a children’s story book along with props and supporting materials to increase the children’s enjoyment for reading. One of the story sacks that Monks Cross has sponsored is called “Shopping with Dad” which explores the adventures a father and daughter have on a shopping trip.

During their visit Bishopthorpe Playgroup will be visiting M&S Simply Food, to support the playgroup’s Healthy Living Fortnight, to learn more about where the fresh food is stored and to take part in a fun session to identify different fruit and vegetables.  The children, who are aged three and four, will also be spending time in the craft area of Hobbycraft making clay hands which they will decorate as a memory of their visit.

Katherine Sharp, Monks Cross Shopping’s Centre Manager said: “We are delighted to be able to support Bishopthorpe Playgroup again especially with one of the stories being based around shopping – it just seemed to fit so well.  We are delighted to be welcoming the children to Monks Cross and hope they enjoy the activities we have arranged for them.”

Julie Morris, Manager of Bishopthorpe Pre-school Playgroup said: “We are so grateful to Monks Cross Shopping for their generous donation of the story sacks.  Such resources will enhance the reading experience for our children.  We were delighted to be able to collect one of the sacks as a group; our trip to Monks Cross is a great adventure made even more exciting because of the activities M&S Simply Food and Hobbycraft have arranged for us.  We would like to thank everyone involved.”
