Government Looking at Fuel Duty Discount for Rural North Yorkshire

1:15pm 17th May 2013

The government is considering asking the EU if it can extend the rural fuel duty discount to rural parts of North Yorkshire.

Drivers on the Scottish Islands and Isles of Scilly get 5p a litre off the cost of petrol due to a government scheme.

Thirsk and Malton MP Anne McIntosh has been campaigning for the rural discount to be extended to part of North Yorkshire.

The Economic Secretary to the Treasury Sajid Javid has told the MP that the government is looking at asking for EU approval to extend the scheme to other rural areas which have similar cost needs, like North Yorkshire.
