Pocklington, Market Weighton and Stamford Bridge Jobs Fair
8:29am 15th May 2013
A recruitment event is taking place in Pocklington today to promote jobs and training opportunities in providing care to people in their own homes in Pocklington, Market Weighton and Stamford Bridge.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is hosting the event, which is aimed at anyone interested in helping people to live independently.
The event will be held at the Community Hall at Burnby Hall, Pocklington today (Wednesday, 15 May), 2-7pm. It will particularly promote career opportunities in social care in Pocklington, Market Weighton and Stamford Bridge.
Potential recruits will learn how they could make a difference to people who want to stay in their own homes but need help to continue living independently, says the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
They add that everyone is welcome to attend, including:
* those wanting to support people in their community
* those starting work for the first time
* people returning to work after a break
* those looking for work to fit around other commitments, and those looking for a change of career
* people wishing to supplement their income while studying.
A wide range of care providers from the independent sector will be present, say the council, with representatives of Bishop Burton College, Jobcentre Plus and the council’s employment and skills team on hand to discuss the range of opportunities and support available.
The type of work will vary as clients all have different needs and on-the-job training will be provided, add the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Care assistant Jacqueline Barker, from the care provider Polkadot Care, says: “Seeing the difference I make to the service user and the smile I can leave on their faces makes this job most enjoyable.
“Knowing they are happy to see me and I can make a difference to their lives is very important to me, so much so that I have encouraged my son to take this path and he enjoys his job, too.”
If you are unable to attend the event but want to find out about job opportunities in your area, you can visit your local Jobcentre Plus office for information.
