Elderly Man Dies After Being Hit by Train Near York

An elderly man has died after being hit by a train at Copmanthorpe.
It happened at Earfit Lane at 12.41 this afternoon, police and paramedics were called but the man passed away at the scene.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said:
“BTP are currently dealing with an incident near Earfit Lane in Copmanthorpe, York, after receiving reports that an elderly man had been struck by a train.
“The incident was reported to BTP at 12.41. North Yorkshire Police and medics from the Ambulance Service are also in attendance, but the man was declared dead at the scene.
“At this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify the man and the exact circumstances of his death.
“The line is currently closed, and passengers are advised to check with National Rail enquiries before they travel on 08457 484950 or www.nationalrail.co.uk.”
