12:17pm 7th May 2013

York police are appealing for information following the theft of a mobile phone from a vehicle in the city.

It was taken from a City of York Council rapid response van, in the eastern side of the city, between 7am and 10.30am on Friday 3 May 2013.

The blue Samsung Galaxy contains sentimental photographs of the owner’s children.

PC Lee Smith, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The theft of the phone and the photographs it holds has naturally upset its owner.

“If you know anything about this theft or can help to identify the thief, I urge you to come forward and contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.”

Anyone who can help to locate the stolen phone is asked to contact York police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Lee Smith. Alternatively information can be emailed to lee.smith@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12130071005.
