Guide Dog Visits York School

Pupils at Clifton School and Nursery came face to face with a Guide Dog puppy in training this morning, as part of their preparation for a sponsored ‘Walkies’ next week.

Guide Dog puppy Nevis attended an assembly with his walker David, before touring classes and meeting all the pupils.  Pupils learned that the puppy will stay with a walker for around twelve months, during which they experience as many different things as possible, and learn not to be frightened when they come across new things in their adult life.

The visit followed an assembly last week with a fully trained Guide Dog, and helped pupils to learn more about the hard work that goes into training every puppy.

Every pupil in the school, from age 3 upwards, will take part in next week’s sponsored walk, which will raise money in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind.  Pupils who are accompanied by parents may also be joined on the walk by family pets.
