York McDonald's Opening Hours Cut After Drunken Trouble
3:39pm 9th April 2013
McDonald's in York is having to cut it's opening hours as neighbours claim it's a magnet for drunken trouble.
It's said customers have been using Blake Street as a toilet, vomiting and fighting in the early hours.
Scott Birsen from the nearby Dean Court Hotel says it's harmed his business.
Now McDonald's will have to close by midnight on Sunday-Thursdays but it can stay open until 1am on Fridays, Saturdays, Bank Holidays and Race Days.
McDonald's has 21 days to appeal the decision.
In a statement the company said:
“Being a considerate and responsible business is very important to us at McDonald’s, and we have worked hard to be a good neighbour to the residents of York.
“Unfortunately, there is still a minority of people who create a problem by disposing of their litter irresponsibly or create noise at night, which is frustrating for us, local residents and businesses, which is why since this licence was granted in 2009 we have taken significant steps to minimise the impact of this behaviour on our neighbours.
“Naturally we are disappointed with this decision but we will continue with our efforts to be a considerate neighbour and a good employer.”
