People in Thirsk and Easingwold Urged to Get Walking
12:07pm 4th April 2013
Walking alone can be boring – but by joining the Hambleton Strollers they can be full of chatter!
The local walking to health group has a range of led walks – all from accessible locations in the market towns, all on flat ground and all led by a trained walk leader. They last about an hour.
“Anyone with a long term medical condition - physical or mental - will know the benefits of regular exercise, and walking is the easiest and safest way to get that exercise,” said Paul Fisher, Walk Co-ordinator.
“The problem is that doing it on your own is boring. But with Hambleton Strollers members of the group often cannot remember where they have walked as they have been too busy talking! The social side of walking is just as important as the walk.”
For more information new programme leaflets are available from doctors surgeries, libraries and tourist information sites - detailing walks between April and June. The details are also available on www.walkingforhealth.org.uk or from Age UK North Yorkshire on 01609 771624.
