People Urged to Register to Vote for North Yorkshire Elections
8:00am 30th March 2013
Ryedale residents are being reminded not to miss out on their chance to vote by registering for the local election on May 2.
Ryedale District Council is urging people to ensure they are on the electoral register before the April 17 deadline, so they are able to have their say.
Janet Waggott, Chief Executive and Returning Officer for Ryedale District Council, said:
“The elections are approaching and people need to make sure they are registered if they want to take part. If you’re not registered, you can’t vote.”
Anyone who may not be able to get to their local polling station on election day can apply for a postal vote, or a proxy vote where they arrange for someone else to vote on their behalf.
New postal vote applications, amendments to or cancellations to existing postal votes must be with the Electoral Services, Ryedale District Council, Ryedale House, Malton YO177HH 5pm on April 17.
Proxy vote applications must be registered by April 24.
Residents can get a registration form or an application for a postal or proxy vote by contacting the local electoral registration office on 01653 600666 or firstname.lastname@example.org or from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk
