Cash Stolen from York Bookies in Knife Robbery

York police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a local bookmakers.

At around 9.10pm on Tuesday 26 March 2013, a man entered Betfred on Millfield Avenue, in the Hull Road area of the city, and stole a sum of cash after threatening the cashier with a knife.

The man put the money in a bag and left the shop with another man.

They left the scene in a black car believed to be a Vauxhall Astra.

The man with the knife is described as white, aged between 25-30-years-old, around 6ft tall, clean-shaven, with a pasty complexion. He was wearing a dark blue waterproof jacket and navy blue tracksuit bottoms.    

The cashier was not injured but was left shaken up by the incident.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that could help the investigation to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Ian Dyer, of York CID, said: “Fortunately, nobody was injured in this incident but it is important that we identify the people involved as soon as possible.

“If you were in Betfred on Millfield Avenue on Tuesday evening or you saw anyone behaving suspiciously around the shop, please contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.

“I would also like to speak to you if you saw the black car that the men left in or if you can help to identify those responsible for this robbery.”
