Heworth Tennis Club Bids for New Clubhouse

7:56am 27th March 2013

Heworth Tennis Club, situated on East Parade, Heworth near Glen Gardens and the shops, is trying to obtain funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities grant to rebuild its 60 year old clubhouse. As well as improving facilities for club members and visiting clubs, it is hoped that the new clubhouse will be used by other groups and societies, or families as a local resource, during both the day and evenings.

Can you help support this development? Are you or a group that you are a member of looking for a small affordable meeting venue? Do you need somewhere with both indoor and outdoor exercise space?

If you are interested and would like more information, please contact the club on info@heworthtennisclub.co.uk.

The new clubhouse would have a fully accessible room with open plan kitchen and storage facilities, a disabled toilet and room for up to 16 people. There would also be a new outdoor mini court and ‘kid’s zone’ play space and would have a tennis hitting wall, netball/basketball shooting nets, could be used for short tennis and provide a secure play space for younger children.

‘We hope our new clubhouse will create an affordable space that can be used by a wide range of local people’, said club Chair Helen Walker. ‘In addition we hope it will encourage more people to join the club and take part in regular sport, which is so important for the health and well being of any community’.
