East Riding of Yorkshire Council Win Planning Award
11:24am 26th March 2013
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Planning and Development Management Service has been awarded Smarter Planning Champion status, one of just 30 local planning authorities to receive the accolade.
The award has been made by the Planning Portal, the Government’s online planning and building regulation resource. Their Smarter Planning initiative promotes the benefits of online working and recognises the commitment of local authorities, like East Riding of Yorkshire Council, to provide a faster, better planning application service using the Planning Portal as the preferred method of making applications.
The award has also been achieved because of the good links from the council’s planning website to the recommended areas of the Planning Portal, as well as its promotion of best practice, guidance and effectiveness in embracing electronic communication, including an online fee payment facility for applicants.
The East Riding receives a high number of planning applications when compared with similar councils and approximately 55 per cent of all submissions are now being made online.
Pete Ashcroft, head of planning and development management, said: “Becoming a Smarter Planning Champion puts the East Riding at the forefront of using online working to promote an efficient and cost-effective service.
“Our customers should also be commended for using the Planning Portal in increasing numbers. It just makes good sense to work in the most efficient manner and save money on postage and printing costs.”
