Extra Bus Service for Haxby to York City Centre
4:19pm 20th March 2013
After customer requests and discussions with local councillors First Bus have announced a new morning journey from Haxby to York city centre on Mondays to Fridays from Monday 18th March.
The new journey will run for a trial period of six months and will be made permanent if it is well used.
This journey will run as follows:
- Haxby, West Nooks....................0825
- New Earswick, Rowan Avenue...0841
- City Centre, The Stonebow.........0859
- City Centre, Rail Station..............0909
Councillor Ian Cuthbertson, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Haxby & Wigginton, said:
“I am pleased that First have responded to our campaign by adding this new morning service. With local residents, I lobbied First at the Ward Committee in December, pointing out the need for extra peak-time journeys between Haxby and the city-centre. Before this change, there was no bus between 7:50am and 9:07am, even though this is exactly when residents need to travel into the city for work. But we still need to improve the late afternoon service for people coming home from work.
“After last year’s damaging changes, this is an initial step in the right direction. First seems to be realising that the service on this route is not giving residents a fair deal on public transport. I hope people will make good use of this new service and I will continue to work with residents to improve transport links to and from Haxby.”
