3:19pm 5th March 2013
A new pharmacy in Market Weighton which is open 100 hours a week, is impressing local people with its new service.
It is the first ever 100-hours a week pharmacy in the area and is attracting customers from a far and wide.
Not only is Market Weighton Pharmacy open every single day, including Sundays, it is open 16 hours a day on week days. And based within Market Weighton Surgery, the new pharmacy is very convenient for getting prescriptions.
Patricia Smith and her husband from Goodmanham are really impressed with the new pharmacy. They used to have to pick up their prescriptions from other pharmacies as they lived within a mile of their local surgery.
“We find the new pharmacy excellent. Market Weighton has grown such a lot with lots of new housing and so it’s something that was really needed.
“It’s so much more convenient for us as we both use the surgery frequently. It’s easier to park and the staff are lovely. It’s open so many hours so you can go any time. I’m pleased to say my prescriptions are always ready on time and there’s also a good stock of other non prescription items which is useful.”
People requiring treatment for minor ailments can also receive free advice and treatment from pharmacy staff at any time of day.
Alexandra Reay,17, from Pocklington was relieved to be given advice and treatment on a Sunday when she woke up with a severe eye infection recently. She was even more pleased to be given a free prescription by the pharmacist so didn’t have to pay for her eye drops.
“I didn’t even know you could go to the pharmacy on a Sunday and it was great to get the eye drops without having to pay anything. The pharmacist was really nice and told me exactly what to do. I was really impressed and will definitely use it again.”
Marie Flynn, Market Weighton Pharmacy Superintendent, said: “We’ve had some really good feedback about our new service and everyone has been supportive.
“We are not only open early til late, but we also offer a treatment and advice for minor illnesses such as cystitis, stomach upsets, mouth ulcers, infected eyes, haemorrhoids and verrucas.
“All our pharmacists are qualified to give out emergency contraception (morning after pill) which is something that hasn’t been available out of hours in this area before.”
“We dispense NHS and private prescriptions and we’re open to all patients from all surgeries, it doesn’t matter where you’re registered. And we also offer a wide range of over the counter medicines as you would find in most chemists.”
