Views Wanted on Road Changes in Heslington

University of York

3:14pm 5th March 2013

Residents and students have the chance to have their say on proposals to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists in Heslington.

City of York Council is carrying out a consultation on the proposed University Road/Field Lane scheme, which aims to improve links between the campuses.

The two roads run directly through the University of York’s main campus which is used by over 14,500 students.

The consultation provides two options which could see footpaths widened, shared off-road and pedestrian footpaths introduced, new cycle routes and bus stops relocated or removed.

The consultation provides two options. The key difference is that option one will introduce a one way traffic system on Field Lane between School Lane and the gyratory. Option two proposes to introduce a footpath on the southern side of Church Field but the existing two way traffic system on Field Lane will remain.

The new cycle path on Church Field will be parallel to Field Lane and will provide the most appropriate and direct link to the facilities on Heslington Lane and University Road. An additional path, running along the northern edge of Church Field is also an option in the consultations.

If approved, the scheme will be funded by the University as a condition of the Planning consent for Heslington East Campus development which was granted in 2005.

The consultation is available to complete at www.york.gov.uk/consultation and runs until Monday 22 April.
