Humberside Police Old Non Emergency Number Switched Off Today

Humberside Police

6:01am 2nd March 2013

Humberside Police have switched off their old 0845 non emergency number.

Following the introduction of the non emergency police contact number 101 in November 2011, Humberside Police say they have switched off the 0845 6060222 telephone number.

The non emergency number 101 went live for Humberside Police in November 2011 and has been in operation in the region and other police force areas across England and Wales since that time.

The 101 number was selected and designed to provide a memorable number to assist the public in contacting their local police force to report crimes and concerns that do not require an emergency response, say Humberside Police.

Just over a year since its introduction, Humberside Police says the success of the 101 number and, in accordance with other Police Forces will move to make the number uniquely available for reporting non emergency incidents from 1 March 2013.

The 0845 number remained active alongside the 101 number since its launch but, with the majority of the public now preferring the 101 number the decision has been made to switch off its predecessor, say the force.

Andy Globe, the Command Centre Operations Manager for Humberside Police said:

“The use of the new 101 (national Single Non Emergency number) for contacting the Police in Humberside has been a huge success and currently around three quarters of all non emergency callers use the 101 system.

“In line with other Police Forces, Humberside is now planning to switch off the old 0845 6060222 number. This will take effect from the 1st March 2013.

“This should make it easier for people to contact the Police as you will only need to remember two short numbers - 999 for emergencies and 101 for non emergencies.

“Calls made to the 101 system from both landlines and mobile telephones cost 15 pence per call."
