Early Years Workers Recognised in York

ACE event 260213

5:30pm 26th February 2013

City of York Council celebrated the achievements and contributions of early years practitioners in the private, voluntary and the independent sector within the city, at a special event held last night.

The presentation, which took place at the Eccles building, Burnholme College saw practitioners awarded certificates to recognise their achievements in gaining higher level qualifications.

The celebration saw 50 practitioners receive certificates and recognition for furthering their qualifications. Twenty practitioners were recognised for achieving Early Years Professional Status certificates and badges, 18 practitioners achieved HONS Degrees in either Education Leadership and Children’s Workforce or Early Childhood Studies and a further 22 practitioners have gained a Foundation Degree in Young Children’s Learning and Development or Working with Children and Young People.

Pete Dwyer, Director of Adults, Children’s and Education, said of the event: “The evening was great to be a part of, the dedication which the practitioners have shown and been recognised for demonstrates a desire to improve the quality of provision within the city. The fact that the vast majority of the practitioners have committed themselves to three or five years study on top of a full time job and family life illustrates the aspirations within the workforce to learn more about their role.”

Councillor Janet Looker, Cabinet Member for Children, Young Peoples and Education, said: “It is crucial to provide high quality early year’s experiences to our youngest and most vulnerable children and it is great to hear that practitioners are constantly looking to improve the quality of the provision within the city. The event celebrated the dedication and hard work of practitioners to improve the city. The work put in to gain higher qualifications and to hone their skills was an inspiration to me at this truly celebratory event.”
