York Council Accused of Missing Efficiency Target by £882,000

The City of York Council is being accused of failing to save £882,000 in efficiency savings.
Conservative councillor Paul Healey got hold of the figures, he says:
"This incompetence by the Labour administration to achieve their own efficiency target, has resulted in extra financial pressures in this budget that could have been avoided and questions the ability of the Council to meet the financial challenges that lie ahead.”
"Cllr. Alexander and his Cabinet are more interested in continuing to borrow to deliver political gimmicks such as an “Arts Barge” instead of concentrating on core services demanded by residents such as highway maintenance, rubbish collection and safer communities."
But Labour cabinet member Julie Gunnell says the council is on track for a balanced budget this year and no extra cuts will be needed:
