Police Commissioner Says Pickering CCTV Decision is Local Matter

Julia Mulligan

6:02am 15th February 2013

North Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan says a decision whether to keep CCTV cameras in Pickering is a local matter.

It's after Pickering Town Council's decision to cut £2,000 of funding, which could mean the cameras are taken down at the end of March if no other solution is found.

The town council says there isn't enough evidence to prove the cameras help cut crime.

Yesterday, the leader of Ryedale Council Linda Cowling told Minster FM she'll go knocking door to door to raise the funds to keep the cameras in Pickering.

We asked Police Commissioner Julia Mulligan for her view on the debate over CCTV cameras in the town.
