The leader of Ryedale Council says she'll go knocking door to door to raise the funds to keep CCTV cameras in Pickering.

Minster FM reported yesterday on Pickering Town Council's decision not to fund the cameras from the end of March.

It claims the cameras do not make enough of a difference to crime levels to justify the cost.

The district council already contributes £25,000 towards Ryedale Cameras in Action which runs CCTV is Pickering, Malton and Norton.

Linda Cowling is confident businesses and people living in Pickering will donate the £2,000 needed to keep the cameras on.

Anyone who may wish to donate is asked to contact Linda Cowling on 01751 472778 or via e-mail at cllr.linda.cowling@ryedale.gov.uk .
