Police have confirmed that a man found murdered in Whisker Cottage, Full Sutton, on Thursday 7 February 2013 as 56 year old Peter Battle who lived at the cottage.
The results of a post mortem examination concluded that he died from a head injury.
Police have arrested a 26 year old man as part of the investigation and he is currently in custody being questioned by detectives.
Detective Chief Inspector Alistair McFarlane, leading the investigation said:
“We have arrested and are questioning a 26 year old man in connection with the investigation into the murder of Peter Battle. Our enquiries however remain very much active and help from the local community and wider public is still something we are appealing for.
“We have previously made mention of the victim’s occupation as an antiques dealer possibly being a significant factor in relation to his murder. He was known to deal in silver and gold and in particular, half sovereign and sovereign rings, coins and cutlery, and regularly frequent auction houses in the Yorkshire area. He was also a regular E-bay trader.
“We have reason to believe that some of those items from within Mr Battle's property may have been stolen and would ask if anyone has recently been approached to buy similar items that they contact us with information.
"A black and silver Advent lap top computer is believed missing and we are keen to trace that also.
“We also have information suggesting that a person or persons may have been visiting the property in the weeks preceding the discovery of Mr Battle’s body.
“Sadly, we think that Mr Battle may have died quite some time prior to our discovering the scene of the murder, and we are keen to have information about any movements at the property from around the end of December 2012 until that time.
“We have a substantial number of officers and staff working on the investigation with forensic examination of the scene continuing and other lines of enquiry being actively pursued.”
“This is a serious crime and we are keen to bring the killers of Peter Battle to justice. If you know anything which may assist us in our enquiries please call Humberside Police on the non emergency number 101 quoting log number 492 of 7 February 2013, or directly to the Incident Room on 01377 208989. Alternatively, calls can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
