Resources aimed at giving businesses the tools they need to plan for growth and improvement have been pulled together by the York North Yorkshire & East Riding Enterprise Partnership to mark national Business Planning Week, which begins next Monday.

“We know that business planning isn’t the most exciting topic, and the private sector members of our Board will testify that plans are often changed on the hoof,” said David Kerfoot, the vice chairman of the partnership and founder of the Kerfoot Group.

“But it’s still absolutely crucial for owners and managers to take the time to think about, and plan, their business.”

The Local Enterprise Partnership can provide introductions to people and resources that can help, via their website www.businessinspiredgrowth.com. Resources include free online webinars, covering all aspects of business development, from what to consider when starting out, to changing legal structures as you grow.

The LEP has also organised business seminars, working with local business networks and Chartered professional advisers. These seminars also cover all aspects of business development, from marketing via social media to securing finance for expansion. Details are provided in the online events calendar http://www.businessinspiredgrowth.com/events/. Because the calendar also includes events organised by all the LEP’s partners, it’s probably the most comprehensive business events calendar in the country.

“Having a business plan becomes absolutely crucial when you’re looking for finance”, added David Kerfoot.

“Banks are holding the purse strings much tighter than when I started out, so I guarantee that without a solid business plan any ideas of getting cash from them are dead in the water. The same goes for the few public sector grants available. But don’t just create a plan in a dash for cash, plan for success and keep referring back to and updating it as you evolve.”

In addition to help with planning, the LEP website also provides details of a variety of funding options for business. http://www.businessinspiredgrowth.com/finance/
