Woman Fined in Norton for Using Mobile While Supervising Learner Driver

3:15pm 5th February 2013

A woman who was fined in Norton while being on a mobile phone as a passenger in a car is warning others of the risks.

Jeanette was taking a friend who's a learner driver out for a practice this morning when police pulled her over.

The law says as the supervisor, you are treated as if you are the person behind the wheel of the car.

Jeanette tells Minster FM a lot of people are as unaware of the law as she was.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said:

“Supervising a learner driver is no different from being behind the wheel yourself.

“You are in charge of the vehicle and have the exact same legal responsibilities to abide by the Highway Code.”
