Two Men Racially Abused at York Train Station

Racial Abuse TRAIN

7:20am 5th February 2013

British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information after two men were racially abused while they waited for a train at York Railway station.

Officers have released an image of a man they believe can help with their enquiries into the incident, which took place at 8.30pm on Sunday, 27 January 2013.

Police Constable Nick Storey, the investigating officer said: "The victims, two Arabic students studying in Newcastle, were standing on platform 3 at the station when they were racially abused by a man. The man then entered Coopers Bar on the station where he is alleged to have boasted of his actions, before being challenged and asked to leave by bar staff.

"We believe that the man may have also been involved in an incident the Slug and Lettuce bar earlier in the day, where homophobic remarks were made to a group in the pub.

The man police would like to trace has been described as white, with a shaved head and was wearing a black jacket, black trousers and black shoes.

PC Storey added, "The victims were left extremely distressed and shaken following the incident. Racial abuse will not be tolerated on the rail network and we will always seek to trace and convict anyone who engages in unacceptable behaviour such as this".
