International lawyer Nick Emmerson selected as the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for York Outer.
York-based international lawyer Nick Emmerson has been chosen as the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for York Outer in the 2015 General Election. Local party members selected him to contest the seat at a special hustings meeting in Oaken Grove Community Centre in Haxby.
He’ll take on existing Conservative MP Julian Sturdy who had a 3,688 majority in the 2010 election.
Nick was born and brought up in North Yorkshire and has lived in York for nine years. Nick is a partner in a major international law firm and has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo.
Nick said, “It’s an honour to be selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for York Outer. I am really looking forward to getting out on the campaign trail and meeting local residents and businesses.”
“I have been fortunate to have succeeded in my chosen career as an international business lawyer at major law firms and I want to bring that experience to York as an MP. I am proud to be a Liberal Democrat, I believe in our vision for a fairer society and greater opportunity for all.”
“In Government the Liberal Democrats are delivering on that vision. More than 81,000 York residents have had their income tax cut by more than £600 a year as a result of Liberal Democrat policies. The changes also mean that we have lifted 7,500 low-earners in York out of paying Income Tax altogether.
Councillor Carol Runciman, Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader said she was looking forward to working with Nick. She said, “The Liberal Democrats received more votes than any other party across York Outer in the 2011 local elections and we will be building on that in the 2015 local and general elections. I know Nick will be an excellent candidate and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Madeleine Kirk, who contested the seat in the 2010 election, also congratulated Nick on being selected. She said, “Nick is an experienced local campaigner who is passionate about York and would make an excellent local MP. I wish him the best of luck in the campaign.”
