York police are investigating after a man indecently assaulted a student near York University.

The victim, a 22-year-old woman, was walking alone along the cycle bath between Wentworth Way and University Road at around 7.15pm on Sunday 27 January 2013 when she noticed a man on a white mountain bike ahead of her.

As she passed the man he touched her inappropriately before cycling into the Wentworth College campus.

The woman was shocked and made her way back to her accommodation.

The same man is also suspected of exposing himself to another student a short time later.

At around 7.30pm, a 20-year-old woman was walking near Vanburgh College when she became aware of a man cycling behind her.

As she reached her living quarters, the man who had now got off his bike, pulled his trousers down and exposed himself to her.

Officers have released CCTV images of the suspect and are urging anyone who can identify him to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 16 and 19-years-old with a short, skinny build and thick, blonde curly hair. He was wearing a grey hooded-top, with the hood up, dark-coloured jeans and dark-coloured trainers with a thick white sole.

PC Hannah Dearden, of York police, said: “Both women have been left shocked and frightened by these incidents and I am appealing to the public to help us trace the man responsible.

“If you recognise the suspect from the images or know anyone matching his description, please contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who has been approached in similar circumstances.”

Anyone with information that can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Hannah Dearden or York police.

If you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
