Emergency Road Works Blossom Street York

Yorkshire Water

6:54am 28th January 2013

Yorkshire Water are begining what they call 'vital emergency workto investigate and resolve a problem with a section of its sewer pipe running under Blossom Street in York, which they say has led to a number of minor waste water escapes in the area.

Yorkshire Water say that whilst the exact problem is not known at this stage, it is thought that a blockage of some description, possibly concrete, has led to waste water escaping from the pipe in recent days.

The section of sewer where the problem is thought to lie is 40 meters from the Holgate Road traffic signals, according to Yorkshire Water.  To address it, they say the team needs to excavate a small section of the right hand lane on the A59 on Blossom Street.

They add that in order to ensure the safety of road users and the on-site team on this busy road, it will be necessary to close a section of the right hand lane, though the left lane of this dual carriageway will remain fully open.

Yorkshire Water say the team would like to reassure all road users that they will do everything possible to minimise disruption - including starting work only after the morning's rush hour has ended - and complete the job as quickly as possible.
