New Campaign Launched to Protect Vulnerable Adults in North Yorkshire

2:27pm 23rd January 2013

A new campaign aimed at ensuring vulnerable people in North Yorkshire get the help and support they need and deserve has been launched by the County Council, in partnership with a wide range of organisations and agencies.

The aim of the campaign – which involves widespread use of posters and publicitiy material - is to make people aware of the importance of promoting dignity and respect, in line with the Government’s White Paper “Caring for our future: reforming care and support.”

The campaign was launched at a major conference in Harrogate, attended by some 160 delegates representing more than 90 organisations, including the NHS, the police, fire and rescue services, probation, trading standards, and North Yorkshire’s district councils.

“This showed that there is a genuine multi-agency commitment to support vulnerable people within North Yorkshire,” said County Councillor Clare Wood,  Executive Member for Health and Adult Services.

Delegates to the conference had the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the multi-agency support which is available to organisations and vulnerable adults,  by attending workshops led by health, district councils, trading standards, social care staff, and independent providers.

Speakers at the conference included Dr David Sheard from the nationally acclaimed Dementia Care Matters and Ruth Andrews from North Yorkshire Trading Standards.

The new Adults Awareness Campaign in North Yorkshire is aimed at increasing the understanding of the general public of what safeguarding is and where to get help. A series of six posters have been designed and will be used around the county as part of the campaign.

All the information from the conference is available on the North Yorkshire County Council website:
