9:01pm 20th January 2013

A man’s body, which was recovered from the River Ouse in York on Saturday afternoon has been identified as Chris Baker.

The 29-year-old York man had been missing since he was last seen climbing over Skelderate Bridge in York on 20 December 2012.

Police were called to the River Ouse near Millennium Bridge at 3.15pm on yesterday after a member of the public reported seeing a body in the river.

Officers and firefighters recovered the body of a man from the water.

Inspector Mark Henderson of York Police said: “Sadly the search for Chris has ended with very distressing news for his loved ones. Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and colleagues as they try to come to terms with his death at this very sad and traumatic time.

“We now ask that his family’s privacy is respected and they are allowed to grieve in peace.”

Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding Chris’ death.

North Yorkshire Police would like to thank members of the public and the media for their support with the appeals to help locate Chris.
