2012 has been the wettest year ever on record for Yorkshire, that's according to the Met Office.

It beat the year 2000 which was officially the wettest in the UK.

Despite starting the year with a drought Yorkshire has seen 1230.8 millimetres of rainfall in the county over the course of the year.

Charles Powell from the Met Office says it was well above the average. He added that the average rainfall for Yorkshire is 903 millimetres, saying that it is the wettest year in the county since records began in 1910.

2012 was the second wettest year on record for the country as a whole.
