York Police Continue Search for Wanted Man
2:14pm 18th December 2012
Police in York have renewed their appeal for help to trace a man who is wanted for recall to prison.
Officers appealed for the public’s assistance last week to locate local man Richard Sampson, aged 31, who has breached the terms of his prison release licence due to his poor behaviour since returning to the community on 19 November 2012.
It is the third time Sampson has breached his licence conditions since his initial release from custody in 2009.
He was jailed for 108 months in 2004 for three burglaries, handling stolen goods and dangerous driving.
Officers have searched a number of properties in the York area as they make extensive enquiries to find Sampson, however he remains outstanding.
Members of the public are being urged to report any sightings of him to the police or Crimestoppers straight away.
Sampson is described as white, around 6ft 2 in tall, with a medium build, green eyes and short, fair hair.
Sgt Dave Hopper, of York police, said: “If Richard Sampson thinks we are going to give up looking for him, he is very much mistaken.
“We have officers out there looking for him every day and that will continue until we find him or he hands himself in.
“I am appealing to the public to be vigilant and let us know if they see him around. He can’t hide for ever and with the help of local people we will catch up with him sooner rather than later.”
If you know where Richard Sampson is or have any information that can help officers to find him, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for York Police.
If you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
