Good news for North Yorkshire from the Chancellor as George Osborne announces improvements to the A1, bringing the whole route up to motorway standard.

He also announced superfast broadband for York and more money for flood defences.

City of York Council Leader James Alexander says that kind of spending does boost growth.

The main announcement was that the planned 3-pence a litre rise in fuel duty from January is being ditched completely.

Nigel Clemmitt from York accountants JWP Creers says that will help people and businesses here.

But Martin Weller from the York branch of the Federation of Small Businesses was hoping for more to boost people's incomes.
