York Gets a New Post Mark
6:27pm 30th November 2012
York MP Hugh Bayley's been campaigning to keep York's postal identity.
It's after the Royal Mail announced its moving its sorting office to Leeds and getting rid of York's postmark.
But the Royal Mail have decided to introduce a new postmark for North and West Yorkshire.
Hugh Bayley MP says:
“I am pleased that Royal Mail has agreed this new postmark. Yorkshire is England’s biggest county and has a wide and varied cultural heritage. Many businesses based in York trade on the city’s history and its global recognition. I wouldn’t want their mail or postcards from tourists visiting York to bear a Leeds postmark. York and North Yorkshire are among the most popular tourist destinations in Britain and its great news that we will not lose our separate identity in postal history.”
