As part of the ongoing promotion of the i-Travel York programme, City of York Council is launching a competition for local primary school children to come up with a name for the i-Travel York mascot, currently known only as “i-Travel York Bee”.
City of York Council say the official launch of the competition will take place at Huntington Primary School on Thursday 8 November, where Cllr Janet Looker, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People, will join their Headteacher, Mrs Ann McKeown and around 30 school children.
Adding that the bee and Cllr Looker will be at the school to meet the children and ask them to think about different methods of transport they can use to get to school.
Cllr Looker said: “Our mascot is there to encourage people to think about how they get from A to B and if there’s a better way to do this for them and our city. However, our bee still needs a proper name. We want as many children as possible to think of great names and send them in to us.”
City of York Council say that all local primary school children are being asked to take part and the new name for the mascot will be unveiled at the winning pupil’s school in early December.
The competition will run until 30 November and entry forms will be available in schools, or can be downloaded from the website: www.itravelyork.info
