Police Appeal for Witnesses to York Sexual Assault

1:03pm 30th October 2012

York police are appealing for witnesses after a girl was sexually assaulted.

North Yorkshire Police say the victim, a 16 year old local girl, was sitting in a glass bus shelter outside York Train Station at around 3.15pm on Monday 29 October 2012 when she was approached by a man who kissed her on the cheek and then again on the neck.

Police say the man, who was drinking from a can of lager, is described as white, around 5ft 2in tall with balding, short brown hair. Adding that he was scruffily dressed in a blue jacket and light blue jeans.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them with information.

PC Paul Sutton, of York police, said: “The victim was sitting alone at the bus stop and this incident was obviously upsetting for her.

“It occurred at a busy time of day, in a busy area of the city, therefore it is possible that someone saw what happened and has information that can help the investigation.”

Officers are asking anyone who can help with their enquiries to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Paul Sutton or York police. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.Please quote reference number 12120182656 when passing information about this incident.
