York Soldiers Head to Afghanistan

10:41am 30th October 2012

Army signallers are leaving their military base in York today and heading out to join troops from Catterick in Afghanistan.

Almost 250 soldiers from 2nd Signal Regiment will leave their families behind for six-months on Operation Herrick 17.

They will be supporting the 4th Mechanized Brigade from Catterick, who took over control of Task Force Helmand earlier this month.

The signallers will be providing secure communications, computers, video-conferencing and telephones to military units throughout Helmand Province and the country's capital, Kabul.
