Rare Seedlings Stolen from a Train in North Yorkshire

10:26am 23rd October 2012
British Transport Police Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place on Wednesday, 5 September from the 20.00 East Coast Kings Cross service after it terminated at Newcastle at 11pm.
Police say the victim, a 59 year-old man from Leeds departed the train at York and left a small dark pink Liberty bag containing a small box of rare seedlings in the overhead rack on the service.
They add that the train terminated at Newcastle and the victim contacted the lost property office to see if the package had been handed in.
PC Mark Dove, investigating for British Transport Police said, “The package wasn’t handed in so we checked CCTV at the Newcastle station which clearly showed a man climbing onto the train before taking the bag then leaving the station.”
“The bag contained a valuable gift of rare seedlings that the victim would like to be returned.”
PC Dove added: “I would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man pictured, or who has any information about the theft.
“If you can help the investigation in anyway please call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.” In all calls please quote log 172 of 7/9/12.
