Fire Service Called out to Fish and Chip Shop in York

5:38am 17th October 2012
A fire in a deep fat fryer in a fish and chip shop in New Earswick triggered the first of four calls to the Fire Service.
They reported that the first call came from a staff member, then three others from people reporting the fire, and that there were flats above the chip shop. It was this they say that led to all three emergency services being called out.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue sent three fire engines to the scene and an aerial ladder platform from York, at eight o'clock last night, less than eight minutes from the first 999 call.
Fire fighters say they searched the premises for any unaccounted people, and no one was injured during the incident.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say that as well as fire damage to the frying range, there was also significant heat and smoke damage to the chip shop, adding the cause was accidental.
