As York Races Course gears up for the last meet of the season tomorrow officials say they are delighted with the new drainage system which they say is saving race days from being cancelled due to flooding. The £2.5 million project was designed to prevent a repeat of the cancellation of the Ebor meet in 2008. That year the whole four day meeting was cancelled at the last minute after very heavy rain soaked the Knavesmire Course
James Brennan, the head of marketing, says this years September storn was a real test for the system but it appears to have solved the problems.
