One dead in North Yorkshire Crash

One person has been killed in a crash on the A1M in North Yorkshire.
It involved three lorries near to Scotch Corner.
The motorway remains shut from Leeming Bar.
North Yorkshire Police Statement:
Emergency services are dealing with a fatal road traffic collision involving three heavy goods vehicles on the northbound carriageway of the A1 south of Catterick, near the Kirby Fleetham junction, which occurred at about 2am today (Wednesday 12 of September 2012).
The initial circumstances involved a HGV carrying bottled gas which collided with another heavy goods carrying a green combine harvester that was parked in a lay-by.
The HGV carrying bottled gas stopped shortly after the collision, but was then struck by a third heavy goods vehicle which was towing a curtain side trailer.
The male driver of the HGV carrying bottled gas suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the curtain side HGV was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police collision investigators are carrying out enquiries at the scene and the vehicles involved will be recovered in due course.
Highways have put in place a diversion around this stretch of the northbound A1, running between Junction 51 at Leeming Bar and Scotch Corner. This is expected to be in place until at least 5pm while resurfacing work is carried out..
The southbound carriageway is open.
