Man Airlifted To Hospital After A Crash In York

An elderly man has had to be airlifted to hospital after a serious crash on the A64.
Police are on the scene near Whitwell.
The man has suffered serious injuries and will be treated at Hull Royal infirmary.
The Westbound carriageway is closed as police investigate what happened.
North Yorkshire Police Statement:
North Yorkshire Police were called at around 12.25pm on Wednesday 5 September 2012 after reports of a serious road traffic collision on the A64 at Whitwell.
The collision involving a white Isuzu Piazza and a red Nissan Qashqai occurred on the westbound carriageway at the top of Whitwell hill, at the turn off for Kirkham Abbey.
The driver of the Isuzu, an elderly man believed to be from the York area, sustained serious injuries in the incident and has been airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.
The westbound carriageway is currently closed as officers investigate the collision. It is not clear how long the road will be closed for, but we will keep you updated.
Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference number NYP-05092012-0206.
