3:49pm 21st August 2012
Two weeks to the day after making Olympic history, Nicola Adams, is set to show the crowds at York Races her gold medal on Thursday August 23rd.
Ladies Day at the Welcome to Yorkshire is a fitting stage for the girl from Leeds who won the hearts of the nation, as well as the first ever Olympic title awarded to a female boxer.
This great sporting summer continues with four days of top quality racing action forming the richest race meeting held in the County. Visiting on the second day, Nicola will be able to enjoy the Group One Darley Yorkshire Oaks as well as savouring the atmosphere that comes with one of the biggest social occasions of the year.
Continuing the sporting theme, at 11.30am Nicola will be in the Winner’s Enclosure to help to make the draw for the stalls positions for runners in the Betfred Ebor, the famous race that shares its name with the racing festival and roman city that hosts it.
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:
“Nicola wrote a new chapter in global sporting history and is a fiercely proud Yorkshire lass who’s a real people’s champion. We always knew she would be a world beater and fantastic ambassador for our county. So it will be amazing to see her at York Racecourse with her medals and give the people of her home county the chance to show their appreciation for her.”
Continuing the theme James Brennan Head of Marketing at York said, “ The Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival is about being the best and Nicola has proved that she is; the York crowds love their sporting champions and I’m sure they will give her a rousing welcome.”
