Cable theft in Stokesley

9:10am 7th August 2012

Stokesley police are appealing for information following a second theft of cable on the A172.

Thieves stole 800m of BT cable on Friday 27 July 2012, from the road, heading from the Treebridge roundabout towards Nunthorpe. The second theft, of around 1100m of cable, took place on Wednesday 1 August 2012, on the stretch of the A172 from the Treebridge roundabout to the junction with the RSPCA centre.

As well as stealing the cable, the offenders also caused significant amount of damage to cereal crops in the fields they entered to steal the cable.

PC Wayne Whitfield, of Stokesley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

“The investigations have shown that whoever stole the cable will have used specialised cutting equipment to remove it.

“If you can identify the people responsible for this theft I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.

“I would also like to hear from you if you may have seen any suspicious activity in the area or vehicles parked in unusual locations.

“I am particularly keen to speak to any scrap metal dealers who may have been offered the cable. Working with these dealers is a key way to reducing the theft of cable.”

Anyone who can help with this enquiry is asked to contact Stokesley police on 101, press option 2 and ask for Wayne Whitfield. Alternatively information can be emailed to wayne.whitfield@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12120125599.
