Arrests following York assault

3:29pm 3rd August 2012
Three men from York have been arrested following a robbery in the city.
It occurred between 10.15pm and 10.45pm on Thursday 2nd August 2012, near to Almery Terrace and the River Ouse, York.
The victim, a 43-year-old man from Harrogate, was walking along the river and had just passed under the railway bridge when he was knocked to the ground before being assaulted, during which he had cash stolen.
As a result of the incident the man suffered serious injuries including a broken jaw. He was taken to York District Hospital where he currently remains in a serious, but stable condition.
A few moments prior to the robbery taking place, the victim had passed a group of six to eight men aged around 18 to 20 years old.
A youth aged 17 and two men aged 20 and 23 arrested in connection the robbery are currently in police custody.
Detective Sergeant Mark Jackson, of York CID, said:
“This robbery took place in a similar place to another robbery a few days ago, police investigations continue into both robberies.
“This was a vicious and apparently unprovoked assault which has left a man needing treatment in hospital. I can reassure residents of York that this morning three people have now been arrested for these robberies and are currently in custody.
“If you can help to identify anyone involved in this robbery, or you have any information relating to either of this robbery, or the previous offence, I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately.”
