Cyclist dies after a crash in North Yorkshire

10:56am 26th July 2012
Roads policing officers are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision near Kildale.
It is believed to have occurred at around 7.20am on Wednesday 25 July 2012, just over half a mile east of Kildale on the back road between Percy Rigg crossroads and Westerdale, via Hob Hole, at West House Farm.
The collision involved a pedal cycle ridden by a 20-year-old man from Great Ayton. As a result of the collision the man suffered a serious head injury and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. At the time he was wearing a black cycle helmet, a blue top, black shorts and boots.
It is believed he was following a route running from Percy Rigg crossroads to Castleton across the moor and down the bank to West House Farm and back to the cross roads.
We are not yet ina position to release his identity.
Traffic Sergeant Trevor Burton, of North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group, said:
“If you witnessed the collision or saw the cyclist riding in the area prior to the collision I ask you to contact the police straight away.
“I am also keen to speak with anyone who travelled along the road between 7.10am and 7.40am on Wednesday 25 July, so that I can establish a more precise time for the collision.”
Anyone who can assist with this investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Reece Williams. Alternatively information can be emailed to Reece.Williams@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
