Diamond Jubilee Medal for Special Constable
5:29pm 17th July 2012
The longest serving member of the North Yorkshire Special Constabulary was recently presented with his Diamond Jubilee medal at the force’s headquarters in Newby Wiske.
District Officer Alan Simpson, who has been a Special Constable for 42 years, received his medal from Temporary Chief Constable Tim Madgwick.
DO Simpson joined the Special Constabulary before North Yorkshire Police came into being in 1974, when he joined the York and North East Yorkshire Constabulary in February 1970.
Alan, who works in the agricultural construction industry, is based in Richmond where he has responsibility for the Specials who work in the Safer Neighbourhood Team.
The Diamond Jubilee medal joins the one Alan received for Her Majesty, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.
DO Alan Simpson said:
“It was an honour to receive my Diamond Jubilee medal from Mr Madgwick.
“Over the years I have seen many changes, not least of which was the move from the York and North East Yorkshire force to North Yorkshire Police in 1974. However, the one thing that has not changed is the commitment shown by everyone who works for the force.
“I can honestly say that I have never regretted joining up as a Special Constable. I have gained a great deal of personal satisfaction knowing that I am helping to keep the community I serve safe and helping to reduce crime levels.
“The support given by my fellow Specials, regular colleagues and the trainers over the years has been invaluable, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their continued help and assistance.
“It is really pleasing to see the energy and enthusiasm of the new recruits who are swelling the ranks. I am sure that they will get the same level of personal satisfaction that I have over the years.”
Mr Madgwick said:
“It was a great pleasure to present Alan with his Diamond Jubilee medal, which he has earned for his service with the Special Constabulary.
“It was also an excellent opportunity for me to personally thank him for the service and commitment he has given, over many years, to the communities across North Yorkshire.
“I know Alan from my time as chief inspector at Northallerton and can personally testify to the dedication he has given over his 42 years’ service with the force.”
