Maverick Could Ruin Olympic Torch Relay

7:28am 28th May 2012
(Updated 1:35pm 28th May 2012)

Resources at North Yorkshire Police will be stretched when the Olympic Torch passes through the county next month.

Mark Botham from the county's Police Federation has told Minster FM that is he worried that a "maverick" is going to ruin the relay.

It's after a man interrupted the Oxford Cambridge Boat Race earlier this year.

Officers will be monitoring and protecting the torch as it passes through our area next month.

However, according to Mark, the police may not have the man-power to cope with someone who's determined to interfere with it.

The torch will be passing through Yorkshire on the week starting the 18th June.
