4:56pm 14th May 2012
A former North Yorkshire police officer, who lied about her daughter having cancer to get financial support from her colleagues, has admitted to fraud.
39 year old Rachel Hewitt from Pontefract falsely claimed her daughter was ill between 2009 and October 2011.
She was a serving officer with the North Yorkshire force at the time of the offences.
Hewitt told her colleages that her daughter had leukaemia and needed money to help her get treatment.
Her work mates raised cash for her, which was then used for other means.
Hewitt pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court today (14th May 2012) to a charge of misconduct in a public office and fraud by false representation.
She was given unconditional bail and will be sentenced on 6th June.
